Kenneth put his age up three years when he enlisted in the 2nd Australian Imperial Force at Paddington NSW, on 19th July 1940.   A 17 year old single storeman, who was 5'8" with blue eyes and fair hair, and living with his parents in Lane Cove at the time, he was enlisted as a Private with the service number NX58263.  He completed his recruit training with 1st Recruit Reception Battalion and 2nd Infantry Training Battalion in Sydney, before being assigned to the Australian Army Ordnance Corps, on 23rd October 1940.

Kenneth was promoted to Acting Corporal on 23rd November 1940, and attended training for non commissioned officers at Randwick, in January 1941.  He was transferred to the 2/2nd Ordnance Stores Company at Liverpool on 11th March 1941.

On 27th June 1941, Kenneth embarked aboard HMAT "BB" for service in the Middle East, with the 2/1st Ordnance Stores Company.  He was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 24th June 1942, and was confirmed in that rank 9 months later.   He returned to Australia on 25th March 1942, only to embark for service in New Guinea on 14th July that same year, with 2/14th Ordnance Stores Company.

On 10th October 1944, Kenneth returned to Australia, and served in the 2nd Base Ammunition Depot, Bogan Gate NSW, until being discharged due to demobilisation on 12th October 1945.  He was subsequently awarded the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal and the Australia Service Medal for his service, 1,092 days of which were outside Australia.   He was also issued the Returned from Active Service Badge, number A117541.

Following the end of the War, Kenneth married Daphne Edith EVANS at Chatswood in 1950, and worked as a clerk with the NSW Postmaster-General's Department in Sydney.  He died in the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, on 7th April 2005, aged 82.   There's a monument to his Service in the NSW Garden of Remembrance at Rookwood Necropolis, Lidcombe (Sydney).
