Private Leonard John Pye (Service No:V101291) served in the ACMF from 19 March 1941 - 4th Light Horse Regiment, and was attached to 7 Australian Base Ordnance Depot at Discharge on 6 February 1946. Siblings Joe, Mary and Irene also served in WWII.
Len was born in Bessiebelle via Port Fairy, Victoria in 1918, second of six children of Timothy (Dusty) William Pye (b1892 in Bessiebelle, Victoria) and Catherine (Kate) Mary Cain (b1896 in Yambuk, Victoria). Dusty (a Labourer) and Kate married in 1916 at Port Fairy and lived briefly in Yambuk before settling in Bessiebelle, where they raised their family and Dusty was a Labourer.
Len was a Farm Labourer in Bessiebelle when he enlisted in the ACMF. Following his Discharge, Len worked in Bessiebelle and Ballarat as a Labourer. In 1964 in Ballarat, Len married Ramona Amy Toplis (b1929 in Ballarat, Victoria) - Ramona worked in Ballarat as a Stenographer and Secretary. By 1968 Len and Ramona had settled in Melbourne, where Len worked on the Railways and Ramona was a Secretary. Len died in 1980 and Ramona in 2010.
