Private Ernest Robert Fellows (Service No:VX95816) served in the AIF with 14 Infantry Training Battalion and 4 Australian Base Ordnance Depot from 28 November 1944 to 20 November 1946. Brothers Charlie and James also served in WWII.
Ernest was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1918, eighth of twelve children of Edward Forrest Fellows (b1876 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Rachel (Dolly) Marion Beecroft (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria). Edward and Dolly married in 1903 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and Edward was a Driver.
In 1939 Ernest was a Mill Hand in Melbourne when he married Edith Muriel Jean Gillard (b1913 in Melbourne, Victoria). Ernest and Edith settled in Melbourne, where Ernest was a Felt Hat Machine Blocker in 1944 when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, Ernest and Edith settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Ernest was a Labourer with the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW) until his death in 1986. Edith died in 2004.
