Craftsman Ronald John Macgarvey (Service No:VX69062) enlisted in the AIF on 19 December 1941 - Trade Group Electrician. Craftsman Macgarvey was attached to 2/4 Australian Base Workshops AEME, and served in New Guinea (24 November 1942 - 28 March 1943) with 34 Infantry Battalion, 4 Ordnance Workshops and 6 Division Workshop. Marched Out to 1 Australian Beach Workshops in 1944, Craftsman Macgarvey was attached to 17 Australian Brigade Workshops AEME at Discharge on 25 October 1945.

Ron was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1920 to Thomas (Roy) Macgarvey (b1893 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Harriet Ann Little (b1895 in Korrumburra, Victoria). Roy (a Masseur) and Harriet married in 1918 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family  and Roy worked as a Masseur, Physiotherapist and Railways Worker. Roy served in WWI (Staff Sergeant; Service No:19333) and WWII (Lieutenant; Service No:V148386).

Ron was working in Melbourne as a Fitter's Assistant when he enlisted in the AIF in 1941. Following his Discharge, Ron worked in Melbourne as a Railways Employee and, in 1949 married Doris (Joy) Joyce Magee (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Joy was a Textile Worker. Ron and Joy settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Ron was a Railways Employee until his death in 1978. Joy died in 1968.
