Biography contributed by Leanne Phillips

Walter Niss Frandsen was born in South Melbourne on 20/4/1891 to parents Hans Christian Frandsen & Mary Jane Kearney.   He was the 7th child of 8 Children.  Walters father was born in Denmark and had migrated to Australia and his mother was born in England.     It would appear that Walter and his siblings grew up around the South Melbourne area.   At some point Walters parents owned a grocer store and his father was a labourer and also a stevedore.

Walter was married in 1913 at the age of 23 to Estella Catherine Maria Deeker known as Stella.   They had a Son Walter Christian Frandsen in 1914 and Walter enlisted for service on 14/5/1917 like his older brothers.        He was listed as being 5ft 10" fair complexion with grey eyes with Dark Brown hair.   Walter was 26 when he enlisted and was a Mirror Maker.

Discharged in 1920 he was at AIF Headquarters and a Corporal.

Walter went on to become a Metal Worker in many locations in Melbourne including Coburg, Brunswick, Preston and Malvern.   It would appear he passed on his expertise in the Metal trade as his son became a Metal Manufacturer.

Walter died on 31/8/1965 at Heidelberg aged 74 years and left behind his wife Stella and son Walter Christian Frandsen.
