Lance Sergeant Albert James Cloke (Service Nos:W24457/WX33637) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 18 December 1941 as a Private, and was a Corporal attached to 4 Base Postal Unit on 27 July 1942 when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF the next day. Lance Sergeant Cloke - rade group Postal Orderly - was attached to 3 Australian Base Postal Unit at Discharge on 19 November 1945.

Albert was born in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1911, seventh of eight children of Peter George Cloke (b1875 in Warracknabeal, Victoria) and Emma (Emily) Winzer (b1877 in Warrnambool, Victoria). Peter was a Telegram Messenger and Telegraph Clerk in Warrnambool before he and Emily moved to Western Australia in 1896. They settled in Fremantle, where they raised their family and Peter worked for the Fremantle GPO, initially as a Letter Carrier and later as Mail Overseer.

Albert worked as a Labourer in Fremantle, and was a Postman in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1942 in Fremantle, Albert married Leila Mary McIntosh (b1908 in Fremantle, Western Australia). Albert and Leila settled in Fremantle, where they raised their family and Albert served in the Army until the mid 1950s, when he resigned and joined the Civil Service. Albert died in 1987 and Leila in 2005.
