Ron was the seventh of fourteen children of Trevillian (Walter) Henry Griffin (b1877 in Dunedin, New Zealand) and Ada Frances Towton (b1889 i Perth, WA). Ron arrived in Victoria with his parents and siblings in the 1880s and by 1904 was a Horse Trainer in Kalgoorlie WA when he and Ada married in Perth WA. Ada's father was well konwn Perth Horse Trainer, Breeder and Jockey George Towton. Walter and Ada settled in Belmont in Perth WA and raised their family - Walter died in 1940.

Ron was a Cement Worker at Rivervale, Perth WA in February 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Gunner; Service No:W2328 and was attached to 3 Field Regiment when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF in October 1942. Ron served as a Corporal (Service No:WX33227) with 16 Infantry Training Brigade and 34 Australian Provost Battalion on Thursday Island (1944) and in Japan (April 1946 - September 1947). He was Discharged in October 1947. Brothers Walter, Henry, Edwin, Allan and Herbert also served in WWII.

Returning to Perth WA, in 1951 Ron married Florence Emily Crouch (b1926 in Albany WA) - Florence was working as a Ward Maid at Royal Perth Hospital. The couple settled in Perth WA where Ron worked for the PWD as a Roller Driver. Ron died in 2000 and Florence in 2009.
