51 years ago today, on the 20th May 1972, Private Arthur James Walz, 34th Battalion (Reg No-1468), farmer from Bolwarra, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 77. SALVATION ARMY-G. 27.

Born at Bolwarra, New South Wales on the 13th October 1894 to John and Evangeline Walz of Abbott Street, West Maitland, N.S.W.; husband of Eva Ann Walz nee Howard (married 1922, West Maitland, N.S.W., died 14.12.1965, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 70, sleeping here), Arthur enlisted on the 3rd January 1916 at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.

Admitted to the 54th C.C.S. 20.4.1917 (accidental injury to left leg with an axe).

Granted leave to England from 11.2.1918 to 26.2.1918.

Arthur returned home on the 28th June 1919, being discharged on the 12th August 1919.

Mr. Walz’s name has been inscribed on the West Maitland Salvation Army Honour Roll, Maitland & District Municipal Roll of Honor and the Bolwarra Public School Roll of Honour. Name not inscribed on the Bolwarra Soldiers' Memorial.

I have placed poppies at Arthur’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
