Born at Merton, Surrey, in 1889, and educated at Wimbledon Public School, England. Son of Henry John and Sarah Alice (nee Shaw) Springer, of 110 Pelham Road, Wimbledon. Married on 5th September, 1909, Harriett Mary, daughter of William and Louise Gibbons, of Selling, Kent. Children — Dorothy Louise and Henry John Springer. Enlisted at Brisbane on 14th October, 1916, and sailed for England on 1st August, 1917. Left for France on 16th October, and into the firing line, where he was wounded and invalided to England. Thence to Australia, arriving on 9th September, and discharged on 9th October, 1919.
