Ron was the youngest of eight children of Adolph Henry Meyer (b1889 in Sydney, NSW) and Jessie Florence Gray (b1886 in Melbourne, Victoria). Adolph (a Labourer) and Jessie married in Sydney, NSW in 1908 and had moved to Jarrahdale, WA by 1916. Adolph enlisted briefly in the AIF in March 1916 (Private; Service No:4089) and was Discharged as Medically Unfit six weeks later. Adolph worked as Mill Hand (Greaser) in Jarrahdale WA before moving his family to Perth by 1931.

Ron was working as a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the ACMF in August 1944 and was a Private (Service No:W38415) attached to 2 Infantry Training Brigade when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF in September 1944. Ron served as a Private and Sapper (Service No:WX41711) with 13/33 Infantry Battalion and 34 Infantry Brigade. Ron served with the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces (BCOF) from 25 May 1946 to 8 October 1947 and was a Sapper attached to 10 Australian Bomb Disposal Platoon when he was Discharged in October 1947.

In 1950 Ron was living in Perth WA and working as a Caster when he married Lila May Batten (nee Snell; b1913 in Perth, WA). Ron and Lila settled in Canning WA where Ron worked as a Labourer. Lila died in 1972 and Ron in 1998.
