Youngest of five brothers who served in WWII, Private Thomas Alfred Tanner (Service No:V501298) served in the ACMF with 2/4 Australian Base Workshop - graded Panel Beater - from 19 August 1942 to 21 June 1946. 

Tom was born in Coburg, Melbourne, Victoria in 1924, youngest of six children of Clarence Stephen Tanner (b1885 in Lara via Geelong, Victoria) and Edith Amelia Chapman (b1891 in Albnay, Western Australia). Clarence and Edith married in 1912 in Albany and settled in the region, where they raised their family and Clarence was a Farmer. In the mid 1920s the family moved to Melbourne, Victoria and settled in Coburg, where Clarence was a Gas Company Employee. All five sons served in WWII - Clarrie was KiiA in France and Ern died in Borneo.

Tom was a Panel Beater in Melbourne in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF, and was a Polisher in Melbourne in 1960 when he married Rose Julia Marie Dingwall (nee Callinan; b1919 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Rose, a Widow, was a Defence Worker in Melbourne. Tom and Rose lived in Melbourne, where Tom was a Polisher and Rose a Can Maker. Rose died in 1997 and Tom in 2005.
