Corporal Henry Lightowler (Service Nos:V51378/VX107572) initially served in the Militia from 29 June 1937 to 12 January 1940 as a Bombardier attached to 10th Field Regiment RAA. Private Lightowler then served in the ACMF with 10th Field Regiment, transferring 'in the field' at Moora to the AIF on 4 July 1942 - Fitter Gunner. Corporal Lightowler served in Borneo (10 May 1945 - 28 January 1946), and was attached to 134 Brigade Workshops at Discharge on 21 May 1946. Older brother Bob, and father Robert also served in WWII.

Richard (aka Henry/Harry/Bluey) Henry Lightowler was born in Durham, England in 1920, second of three children of Robert William Lightowler and Annie Evans (both b1899 in Durham, England). Robert and Annie married in 1916 in Durham, where they settled and Robert was a Brickworks Labourer. In 1922 the family immigrated, arriving in Melbourne on board the Berrima ((Robert's older brothers - Richard and John - were already settled in Melbourne). Robert and Annie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Robert was a Brickworks Labourer.

Harry worked in Melbourne as a Needle Machinist (Swallow Needle Coy) before enlisting in the Army. In 1947 in Melbourne he married Elsie Blease (b1929 in Melbourne, Victoria). The couple settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Harry worked as a Machinist until the early 1950s when he bacame a Gardener. Elsie died in 1991 and Harry in 2000.
