Arnold was the sixth of eight children of Alfrit Anton Andersen (aka Anton; b1889 at Nikenbah near Pialba, QLD) and Eileen Scott (b1893 in Gympie, QLD). Anton (a Farmer in Tiaro, QLD) and Eileen married in 1910 in Tiaro, QLD where they settled and raised their family. In the mid 1920s Anton and Eileen moved their family to Bundaberg, Pialba, Wynnum, Cairns, Noosaville and Southport where Anton worked as a Labourer and Gardener.
Arnold was a Pastry Cook in Wynnum, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in February 1942. He served as a Private (Service No:QX27920) with 164 Battery and was posted in Thursday Island (3 February 1944 - 28 September 1944) with 56 Composite Ack Ack (Anti Aircraft) Regiment. He was a Gunner attached to 56 Composite Anti Aircraft Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1945. Brothers Edgar Anton (Service No:QX29381) and Desmond Noel (Service Nos:QX35961/Q101619) and Brothers-in-Law Leslie Royal Thornhill (Service No:25530) and John Dillon (Service Nos: QX56870/Q115276) also served in WWII.
Arnold was working as a Pastry Cook in Wynnum in 1951 when he married Mavis Mary Agnes Cook (b1928 in Roma, QLD). Arnold and Mavis settled in Southport on the Gold Coast where Anton worked as a Pastry Cook (and a brief stint as a Mexhanic). In 1990 Anton was awarded an OAM for service to the community (Queen's Birthday Honours). Mavis died in 2006 and Anton in 2022.
