Ernest was the sixth of eight children of Percival (Percy) Dyson (b1882 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Theodosia Hannah Wallis (b1881 in Perth WA). Percy (a Furniture Dealer) and Theodosia married in 1900 in Perth WA where they settled and raised their family. Percy worked as a Furniture Broker and Dealer, a Bookmaker and Clerk.
Ernest worked as a Clerk and served with the Militia (Private; Service No:W9050) with 16th Battalion (28 February 1941 - 10 June 1941) before enlisting in the ACMF (8 Casualty Clearing Station) until July 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF. Ernest served with 108 Casualty Clearing Station as a Corporal (WX25688) and was Discharged in July 1946.
In 1950 Ernest married Jean Noel Ward Simmons (nee Morrison; b1913 in Perth WA). The couple settled in Perth WA where Ernest worked as a Clerk. He died in 1995 and Jean in 2010.
