Ken (Clive McKennay Davies, aka Kenny Mac) was born in Toodyay, Western Australia in 1924, youngest of nine children of Samuel Romney Davies (b1878 in Wasleys, South Australia) and Maude McKennay (b1883 in Kapunda, South Australia). Samuel (a Miner) and Maude married in 1902 in Boulder, Western Australia, and by 1910 had settled in Toodyay, where they raised their family and Samuel was an orchardist on Strathavon Farm. Samuel and Maude moved to Wattle Grove in Canning in 1940 - Samuel was an Orchardist.

Ken was working in Toodyay as a Truck Driver and, according to his Attestation Papers (NAA) as a Leading Hand at a Gold Mining Battery in January 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Ken was in Subiaco in Perth working as an Assembler when, in 1947, he married Georgina Florance Singleton (b1925 in Perth, Western Australia). In the mid 1960s the couple moved to Glen Forrest in Kalamunda, where Ken was a Bee Keeper - in 1972 he was nominated for selection to the Australian Honey Board to represent honey producers in Western Australia.
