Died on this date - 16th August.......John Martin was born in Scotland in 1859.

He came to Australia when he was 32 years old (around 1891).

John Martin enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) in December, 1915 stating he was a 43 year old Engine Driver.

He arrived in England in July, 1916 for further training then proceeded overseas to France in November, 1916.

On 26th May, 1918 he was wounded in action suffering from effects of Mustard Gas then invalided to England. He was discharged from Hospital on 15th July, 1918.

Lance Corporal John Martin was admitted to 4th Scottish General Hospital, Stobhill, Glasgow, Scotland on 15th August, 1918 (while on leave)with a fractured skull but died on 16th August, 1918.

He was buried in Rutherglen Cemetery, Rutherglen, Scotland.
