Pilot Officer Sydney James Stevens (Service No:441530) initially served in the AIF (18 November 1942 - 29 September 1943) as a Trooper (Service No:WX35161) with 25 Cavalry Regiment. He served in the RAAF from 2 October 1943 to 1 July 1947 and was attached to 15 Service Flying Training School at Discharge on 1 July 1947. Siblings Alfred, George and Arthur also served in WWII.
Born in 1923 in Kellerberrin WA, Sydney was the fifth of seven children of Walter George Stevens (b1885 in Corop, Victoria) and Annie McCulloch (b1893 in Cooktown, QLD). Walter (a Farmer) and Annie married in 1910 in Northam, WA and settled in Kellerberrin where they raised their family and Walter was a Farmer.
Sydney worked as a Clerk and in 1946 in Perth WA married Betty May Payne (b1926 in Perth, WA). Sydney and Betty settled in Perth WA where Sydney was a Clerk. Betty died in 2005 and Sydney in 2018.
