Sergeant Terence Murphy (Service Nos:N250936/NX156431) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 26 December 1941 as a Private (graded Clerk), and was a Lance Corporal attached to 4 Casualty Clearing Station on 30 June 1942 when he Discharged, to enlist the following day in the AIF. Sergeant Murphy served in New Guinea (5 November 1944 - 30 January 1946) with 4 Casualty Clearing Station and 2/1 and 2/15 Field Ambulance, and was attached to 104 Casualty Clearining Station at Discharge on 12 February 1946.
Terence was born in Mittagong, New South Wales in 1921, only child of Alfred David Murphy (b1865 in Berridale, New South Wales) and his second wife Rose Dale (b1888 in Brighton, Victoria) - Rose was a Governess in Adelong. Alfred was a Farmer at Hanging Rock in Cowra and later in Marara, and was a Widower in 1920 when he and Rose married in Sydney. Alfred died in 1921, and Rose settled in Sydney where she raised her son.
Terence was working as a Junior Clerk/Salesman in 1941 in Sydney when he enlsieted in the Army. Following his Discharge in 1946, he returned to Sydney and was working as a Salesman in 1949 when he married Barbara Joan Giles (b1927 in Sydney, New South Wales). Terence and Barbara settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Terence worked as a Salesman and Sales Manager until his death in 1987. Barbara died in 1996.
