"THE LATE PRIVATE J. B. RIEDEL.

Mr. and Mrs. G. Riedel, of Nuriootpa, have received news of the death of their eldest son (Bert), who died of wounds on July 21 while on active service at the front. Private Riedel was 27 years of age, and for a number of years was employed at Mr. G. Penn's Preserving Works, Nuriootpa and Adelaide. He then joined the Sydney Railway Department, and was employed at the Eveleigh stores. After two years' service he returned to South Australia, where his services were sought by the Angas Park Preserving Works, with whom he stayed until after the fruit season. Prior to enlisting he assisted in his father's business. He returned to Sydney to enlist, but subsequently he decided to return to Adelaide, where he joined the colors over a year ago. He was of a jovial disposition, and was liked by all who knew him." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 19 Aug 1916 (nla.gov.au)
