John Mcmillan was a farmer in Balaklava when he joined the AIF on the 16th of August 1915. He was 25 and a half years old when he registered. He embarked on the HMAT A26 Armadale on the 21 of March 1916. He served for a period on the Western Front but was repeatedly in hospital with illness. In late 1917 he was admitted to hospital with rheumatism and was later diagnosed with renal calculis. He was returned to Australia for medical discharge in August 1918.
