Trooper John Stephen Goodman Webb (Service Nos:W24368/WX25358) initially served in the ACMF as a Private with 25 Machine Gun Regiment from 19 December 1941 to 31 July 1942, enlisting 'in the field' the next day in the AIF. Trooper Webb - graded Signaller - served with 2/9 Australian Commando Squadron in New Guinea (19 October 1944 - 30 January 1946), and was Discharged on 13 February 1946.

Steve was born in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1920, eldest son of John Stephen Goodman Webb Snr (b1891 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Lydia Marie Hitchin (b1892 in Edwardstown, South Australia). John was a Horse Driver and Farmer in Cottesloe, WA before serving in WWI. He and Lydia married in 1919 and settled in Cottesloe, where John was a Mechanic and Lineman with the Postmaster General's Department. The family moved to Merredin in the mid 1920s - John worked as a Lineman until his retirement in the 1950s.

Steve worked as a Labourer and Brewery Hand in Merredin before enlisting in the Army. In 1944 in Northam, WA he married Edna Taylor (b1924 in Northam, Western Australia) and, following his Discharge in 1946, Steve and Edna setteld in Merredin where they raised their family and Steve was a Brewery Hand and Labourer - and a Life Member of the Merredin Railways Football Club. Steve died in 1990 and Edna in 1991.
