Private Claude Collins Vorback (Service No:NX90438) enlisted in the AIF on 26 February 1942 and was attached to General Details Depot and 2/1st Pioneer Battalion before embarking on 18 September 1942 with 30 Employment Coy from Townsville for Port Moresby on board the Tarooma. Sapper Vorback served in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands (18 September 1942 - 5 June 1945) with Details Depot NG and 46th Australian Division Corps of Royal Engineers (Works). Private Vorback was attached to 46th Australian Division Corps of Royal Engineers (Works) at Discharge on 15 November 1945.
Claude was born in Marlborough, New Zealand in 1907, third of four children of William Allan Vorbach (b1878 in Renwick, New Zealand) and first wife, Mabel Druscilla Collins (b1878 in Bendigo, Victoria). William was a Wheelwright in 1900 when he and Mabel married in Bendigo, Victoria. They lived in New Zealand - Renwicktown and Marlborough - where they raised their family and William was a Wheelwright. Following Mabel's death in 1925, William remarried.
Claude moved to Victoria following his mother's death and was working as a Labourer at Lancefield in Ecucha in 1931. In 1933 in Melbourne, Claude married Margaret Evelyn Richardson (b1901 in Aberfeldy, Victoria) - Margaret was a Leather Worker in Melbourne. In 1934 Claude and Margaret moved to Sydney, NSW, where they settled and raised their family and Claude worked as a Window Cleaner. Following his Discharge from the Army, Claude and Margaret lived in Sydney, where they raised their family and Claude was a Window Cleaner. Claude died in 1988 and Margaret in 1990.
