1 Sep 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, 'On the 1st September, 1918, during operations North of PERONNE, a Company which occupied a very advanced position had to slightly withdraw to conform to the general line. This Non Commissioned Officer placed himself in such a position as to afford covering fire and also brought most of the enemy fire upon himself. When the Company had established itself he withdrew from his position and walking backwards kept firing at the enemy form his Lewis Gun from the hip. The splendid courage of Corporal Mazzer materially assisted the Company in executing a very difficult task.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 115 Date: 10 October 1919 |
