25 Jul 1918: Honoured Military Cross, 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a working party in a heavily shelled area, and several of his men became casualties. He assisted to dress and remove the wounded, and by his courageous example encouraged the remainder at their work under most difficult conditions.'
