Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Private STANLEY HICKS.
The last that was seen of Pte. Stan. Hicks was on No Man's Land after Pozieres fight. He was then lying wounded. No trace could be found of him after wards and after hoping in vain for 13 months to hear of his being a prisoner, his people have had to accept the official record that he died of wounds that day. Pte. Hicks was an Egerton boy and had been a resident of Footscray about 4 years. He was the only son of Mr and Mrs W. Hicks, of 42 Lynch St. He joined the 31st battalion in July 1915, being then employed by the Harbor Trust. After a long spell in Egypt, Pte Hicks went to France. He was a footballer of note in the Egterton and Gordon district.
