Norman Berry
Norman Berry was a family friend who visited me at Carwoola Station out past Queanbeyan NSW.
I asked him about his war service and he told me he'd been a light horse strapper.
He said as a strapper he'd felt reasonably well protected from gun fire because he'd hold onto the horses saddles and raise his legs. That was in the early 1980's and Norman was in his 90th year. By that time he was a thin frail grey headed man, slowed by age but still had his mental faculties. I believe he'd grown up in Sydney but never married.
In writing this I honour Private Norman Berry 1st Lighthorse Man.
