Sergeant Raymond Geoffrey Fairhall (Service No:TX13594) initially enlisted in the ACMF at Warracknabeal in Victoria (Private; Service No:V25658) and served with 26 Machine Gun Regiment. Transferred for work to Tasmania, he enlisted in the ACMF there on 17 February 1942 (Corporal; Service No:T14465) and served with 6 Garrison Battalion (Tas) and 22 Motor Regiment. Discharging on 8 February 1943 to enlist in the AIF the following day, Sergeant Fairhall served with 22 Motor Regiment and 41 Infantry Battalion. He was attached to 3 Australian Engineer Store Base Depot (AESBD) at Discharge on 10 January 1946.

Born at Mitre Lake via Natimuk, Victoria in 1912, Ray was sixth of seven children of John Apted Fairhall (b1865 at Dean's Marsh, Victoria) and Violet Basset (b1876 at Laen East, Victoria). John was a Teacher when he and Violet married in Laen East in 1898. He and Violet lived in Donald, Eddington, Mt Arapiles, Mitre Lake, Glendaruel, Poowong and Melbourne where they raised their family and John was a Teacher.

Ray was a Bank Clerk with the Union Bank for twenty years, and in 1937 in Geelong, Victoria married Alvie Myrtle Gallacher (b1906 at Mt Eccles, Victoria) - Alvie was a Teacher. Ray and Alvie moved to Warracknabeal following their marriage and in the early 1940s to Tasmania where Ray was a Bank Official in New Town and Hobart. Following his Discharge from the Army, Ray was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Istitute for the Blind, Deaf and Dumb and served as Trustee and Member of the Board of Management for Strathmere Lodge (Aged Care facility in Hobart). In 1960 Ray and Alvie moved to Melbourne where Ray worked as an Administrator. Alvie died in 1993 and Ray in 1998.
