Private/Craftsman William Andrew Lacey (Service No:VX10714) initially served in the Militia as a Private (Service No:328594) with 52nd Battalion (10 May 1937 - 1 May 1939). Private Lacey enlisted in the AIF on 21 March 1940 - graded Fitter - and served with 2nd/1st Australian Field Workshops AEME in Scotland and the Middle East (5 May 1940 - 28 February 1943) and Borneo (4 December 1944 - 16 october 1945. He was a Private (Craftsman) attached to 2/1 Australian Field Workshops AEME at Discharge on 26 October 1945.

William was born in Warragul, Victoria in 1919 (his service records give 1919 as his DoB, the BDM Vic gives 1921 {Registration No:8247/1921), second of four children of William (Bill) James Lacey (b1887 in Neerim, Victoria) and Ethel Marian Warren (b1893 in Steiglitz, Victoria). Bill (an Agent) and Ethel married in 1918 in Warragul, where they settled and raised their family and Bill worked as an Agent (Pig Buyer). Bill was killed in 1939 when his motor vehicle collided with a train at Hedley Crossing. 

William worked as a Farmer and Fitter and Turner (Metal Polisher) in Warragul before enlisting in the Army. In 1944 in Melbourne, he married June Erin Murphy (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria). Following his Discharge, William and June settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and William worked as a Metal Polisher/Tool Setter until his death in 1966. June died in 2000.
