61 years ago today, on the 29th June 1964, Private Horace Cecil Baldock, 42nd Battalion (Reg No-2666), farmer from Yelarbon or Gibinbell or Goondiwindi, Queensland and Newcastle?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. ANGLICAN 3-214. 31.

Born at Wallabadah, New South Wales on the 15th October 1897 to Percy Lusted, died 5.10.1948, Toowoomba, Queensland, age 73, buried at Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery, Queensland, and Henrietta Ada Jane Baldock nee Bourne, died 28.5.1952, Toowoomba, Queensland, age 73, sleeping at Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery, Queensland, from Gibinbell via Inglewood, South Western Line, Queensland; husband of Naomi Modester M Baldock, married 1923, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 19.4.1975, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 72, sleeping here, Horace enlisted on the 10th August 1916 at Warwick, Queensland.

Unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on the 17th November 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 30.1.1917.

Wounded in action - 4.10.1917 (SW right thigh, severe).

Invalided to England 16.10.1917.

Commenced return to Australia 12.5.1918.

Horace arrived home invalided on the 5th July 1918, being discharged on the 25th July 1918.

Mr. Baldock’s name has not been inscribed on the Yelarbon Roll of Honour, Yelarbon War Memorial and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Horace’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
