Born in Collie WA in 1923, William (Bluey)was the son of Thomas William Howson (b1900 in Kalgoorlie, WA) and Eleanor Florence Ambrose Taylor (b1904 in Fremantle WA). Thomas (a Labourer)and Eleanor married in 1922 in Perth WA where Thomas worked as a Labourer, Painter and Builder's Labourer. Following his service in WWII (Service Nos:W244358/W2520), Thomas and Florence lived in Jarrahwood and Donnelly River where Thomas was a Mill Hand and Timber Worker before moving back to Perth.

Bluey was a Farm Hand in Wyalkatchem WA in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Gunner; Service No:W5167). He was attached to 116 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF on 13 July 1942. Bluey served as a Sapper (Service No:WX25618) with 2/4 Field Squadron RAE in Dutch Borneo (26 May 1945 - 16 June 1946) and was Discharged in July 1946. In 1943 Bluey married Maud (b1922 in Bunbury WA) - Maud was in the RAAF (Aircraftwoman; Service No:103266), and they Divorced in 1945. Brother Ronald (WX34438) and sister Betty Lucretia (WF94288) also served in WWII.  

In 1947 Bluey married Phyllis Pearl Long Morrish (b1921 in Gerladton WA) - Phyllis served in WWII (Private; Service No:WF94523). Bluey worked for the WAGR in Narrogin and Perth WA. He died in 2005 and Phyllis in 2010.
