Sergeant Lindsay Leslie Dickinson (Service Nos:V503468/VX141240) initially served in the ACMF with 1st and 3rd Training Battalions as a Gunner from 3 November 1942 to 22 April 1943. He enlisted in the AIF on 23 April 1943, and was attached to 2/9th Australian Field Regiment (graded as Gunlayer) when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Thursday Island on 15 August 1944. Sergeant Dickinson served in New Britain (16 January 1946 - 2 July 1946) and was attached to 33rd Port Operations Coy on 10 August 1946 when he was injured (fractured skull) in a motor cycle accident whilst on leave in Melbourne - 'injury is not of a minor nature' (NAA). Sergeant Dickinson was attached to 2/9th Field Regiment at Discharge on 8 November 1946.

Lins was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1923, youngest son of Leopold (Leo) Fairfield Dickinson (b1893 in Fairfield, Victoria) and Irene Edith Emily Craig (b1892 in Launceston, Tasmania). Leo served in WWI, and was a Watchman in Melbourne in 1920 when he and Irene married. By 1921 they were living at Koimbo, Margoola where Leo was a Wheat Farmer (Battle to Farm). In 1927 the family returned to Melbourne, where Leo was a Brewery Employee, Cellarman and Council Worker.

Lins started work as a Die Setter/Press Hand and enlisted in the Army in 1942. Following his Discharge, Lins settled in Melbourne and was a Marine Fitter in 1949 when he married Betty Margaret Symons (b1925 in Warrnambool, Victoria). Lins and Betty settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Lins worked as a Fitter. Betty died in 1979 and Lins in 1999.
