Corporal Thomas Crawford Neville (Service No:TX12186) initially served four years with the Militia (Cook/Sergeant with 12 Field Ambulance) and the ACMF (Private; Service No:T102023) before enlisting in the AIF on 30 October 1942 as a Private attached to 13 Infantry Training Battalion. Private Neville served with 12/50th Infantry Battalion and 19 Maintenance Platoon (Trade Group - Carpenter) and was promoted to Corporal on 2 March 1944. In October 1944 Corporal Neville was attached to 1 RAE Training Centre before embarking for service in Borneo (10 June 1945 - 20 November 1945). Corporal Neville was attached to 2/4 Field Squadron RAE at Discharge on 6 December 1945.
Born in Beaconsfield, Tasmania in 1908, Thomas was the eldest of five children of Thomas Neville Snr (b1876 in Westbury, Tasmania) and his first wife Elvina (Elvie) May Crawford (b1886 at Turners Marsh, Tasmania). Thomas Snr was a Blacksmith in 1907 when he and Elvie married in Beaconsfield, where they settled and raised their family and Thomas Snr was a Blacksmith. Following Elvie's death in 1917, Thomas Snr remarried and settled in Launceston where he worked as a Blacksmith.
Thomas was a Carpenter in Launceston in 1930 when he married Lina May Best Balmforth (b1911 in Sprent, Tasmania). Thomas and Lina settled in Launceston where they raised their family and Thomas was a Carpenter. Thomas died in 1987 and Lina in 2003.
