Briefly
William Thomas Meharry was my dad. He died when I was 14 years old. I loved him but I did not know him. As far as I know he joined the Australian army at a time when less than half of Australia had been formally mapped. He was a surveyor and a map maker. He spent his time in world war two making maps of Australia. When he left he army he was employed by the West Australian Department of Lands and Surveys. I can recall times when he brought home a chronometer in preparation for hosting lessons or examinations (I am unsure which) for new surveyors in the subject of astronomy. As a child I helped him correct the time based on the pips from the ABC.
After he died Mt Meharry was named after him.
