Son of George Warwick Upham and Mary Jane Upham nee Holden formerly Fitzroy, Victoria.

Husband of Florence Gertrude Upham nee Ritchie of Vic Road, Marrickville, NSW. Alfred and Florence married during 1909c in Petersham, NSW

16 May 1916 - enlisted at Sydney with the 1st Battalion and with the rank of Private.

Returned to Australia aboard HT Port Denison disembarking on 17 November 1919

6 January 1920 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
