Corporal James Henry Heywood (Service Nos:V381912/VX114425) initially served in the ACMF from 2 June 1942 to 21 August 1942 with 4 Military District Workshops and No 2 Motor Transport Workshops - graded Sawyer. Private Heywood was 'in the field' in Alice Springs NT, attached to Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) when he enlisted in the AIF on 22 August 1942. Private Heywood served with 2/2 Forestry Coy in New Guinea and New Britain (Lae and Labuan; 21 August 1944 - 8 January 1946) and was a Corporal attached to 2/2 Forestry Coy at Discharge on 12 January 1946.

Fifth of eight children, Jim was born Colac, Victoria in 1922 to George Henry James Heywood (b1879 in Carpendeit, Victoria) and Lillie Jane May Wallis (b1887 in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria). George (a Drover) and Lillie married in 1908 in Colac - where they lived until 1912 and George was a Labourer. George and Lillie then settled at Carpendeit via Cobden, where they raised their family and George was a Farmer.

Jim was working as a Saw Mill Hand in Bungador via Stoneyford in 1940, and following his Discharge from the Army, was a Carpenter in Melbourne in 1948 when, in Port Fairy, he married Irene Teresa Pye (b1923 at Port Fairy, Victoria) - Irene served in the Army (Corporal; Service No:Vf513802). Jim and Irene settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Jim worked as a Carpenter until his death in 1963. Irene died in 2004.
