Corporal Ronald Robert Charles Kuhnell (Service No:VX60781) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V10938) on 12 February 1941 and was a Driver Mechanic attached to 3 Ordnance Workshops when he Discharged on 5 August 1941 to enlist the following day in the AIF. Private Kuhnell served with 2/4 Army Field Workshop and 2/7 Advanced Workshop in the Middle East (1 September 1941 - 28 February 1943) and New Guinea (17 October 1943 - 24 January 1945 and 14 May 1945 - 5 September 1945). Promoted to Corporal in 1943, he was attached to 2/1 Australian Field New Guinea AAOC at Discharge on 23 October 1945.

Ron was born in 1914 in Melbourne Victoria, eldest of eight children of Charles Rudolph Kuhnell (b1880 in Malmsbury, Victoria) and Henrietta Rebecca Smith (b1895 in Neerim, Victoria). Charles (a Labourer) and Henrietta married in 1914 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Charles was a Labourer. Four of their sons (Ron, Gordon, Bert and Lindsay) and daughter Rita served in WWII.

Ron worked as a Labourer in Melbourne, and in 1936 married Mary Bell (b1916 in Cumberland, England) - Mary immigrated in 1924, arriving in Melbourne with her parents and siblings on board the Themistocles. Ron and Mary settled in Melbourne, where Ron was working as a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Ron and Mary lived in Benalla where Ron worked as a Mechanic, then moved to Culgoa for ten years where Ron was a Garage Proprietor. In the mid 1960s Ron and Mary moved to Neerim, Victoria where Ron was a Farmer. Following Mary's death in 1966, Ron travelled to England where, in 1968 in Kent, he remarried to Isobel Hamilton Kearne (b1924 in London, England) - Isobel had trained as a Midwife, and was a Nursing Sister in 1955 when she visited Melbourne, Victoria. Ron and Isobel returned to Neerim, Victoria where they settled unitll the mid 1970's when they retired to Pambula Beach in NSW. Isobel died in 1983 and Ron in 1996.
