A father of three boys who served in the AIF, 782 Sergeant Thomas James Garth, 28th Battalion AIF, was killed in action 3rd/6th November, 1916. He was 49 years of age, the husband of Sarah Garth, of Mowbray, Launceston, Tasmania. He had been born at Lucknow, India, and had served for 21 years in the British Imperial Army with the 7th Royal Fusiliers. His father was most likely in the Army as he was educated in various military schools. He came out to Australia with his family during 1911. Having no known grave, he is also remembered on the Villers Bretonneaux Memorial in France.
