Sergeant Marcus John McManus 45th Battalion A.I.F No. 2378. He was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in WW1 in France: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations East of HAMEL E of CORBIE from 8th to 11th August 1918. He acted as Company Sergeant Major throughout the action and had command of the Headquarters platoon which he led with great skill. At one point he captured 43 prisoners. Always cool and energetic he was a great assistance to his Company Commander". E.G. Sinclair Maclagan. Major General Commanding 4th Australian Division.
To us he was our Grandfather Marcus and my Mother always said he was the kindest and gentlest of men. Lest We Forget
