Corporal Frank Stickland (Service No:WX39970) first served with the ACMF (Gunner; Service No:W59011) with 29th Anti Aircraft Battery from 8 July 1942 to 1 July 1943. Following his enlistment in the AIF, Private Stickland served in Darwin NT from 2 March 1944 to 1 January 1945. Corporal Stickland (his NAA Record states he was Sergeant at Discharge, his DVA record has him as Corporal) was attached to 4 Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery at Discharge on 19 June 1946.

Frank was born in 1924 at Goomalling in WA, the third of four children of Albert Edward Oakland Stickland (b1891 at Port Germein in South Australia) and Loyal Muriel Forward (b1891 in Broken Hill, NSW). Albert arrived in Fremantle WA in 1915 and was a Farmer at Wongan Hills in 1916 when he and Loyal married at Victoria Plains, WA. Albert and Loyal lived in Goomalling/Wongan Hills where they raised their family and Albert was a Farmer, and a Porter and Shunter with WAGR in Northam. In the 1940s Albert and Loyal moved to Perth, Where Albert was a Carpenter/Builder.

Frank excelled at sports in his youth - football, cricket, cycling and athletics - and was a Shop Assistant and Builder's Labourer in Wongan Hills before enlisting in 1942. Following his Discharge, Frank was a Student in Perth before becoming an Accountant. In 1951 in Perth, WA Frank married Valma May McCormack (b1928 in Perth, WA) - Valma was a Tailoress in Perth. Frank and Valma settled in Perth WA where they raised their family and Frank worked as an Accountant. Frank died in 1998 and Valma in 2019.
