The Minmi Roll of Honour has 78 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 72nd name inscribed is Private John Goodall, referred to as Jack.

I do not know when Jack died, or where buried or ashes interred, or if he ever married, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Private Jack Goodall, 3rd Australian Pioneer Battalion (Reg No-2817), single miner from Greta, New South Wales, born at Balby, South Yorkshire, England about 1874 to John Henry Snr, died 21.10.1924, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 75, buried at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 29, Plot 038, from Minmi, New South Wales and Catherine Street, O'Brien's Estate, Cessnock, N.S.W., and Ann Goodall, died 19.4.1915, Minmi, N.S.W., age 63, mother of 2 sons, sleeping at Minmi Cemetery, N.S.W., Left Hand Side, Section 29, Plot 038, from Minmi, New South Wales.

Jack enlisted on the 28th February 1916, stated age 42 years, at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 9th November 1916.
Disembarked Devonport, England 9.1.1917.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 3.5.1917.

Admitted to hospital 23.6.1917 (asthma).

Commenced return to Australia 5.11.1917.

Jack arrived home on the 3rd January 1918 suffering debility & senility, being discharged on the 16th February 1918.

Not officially commemorated.

Jack’s name has also been inscribed on the Greta Soldiers' Obelisk, Greta & Branxton Municipal Roll of Honor, and the Cessnock War Memorial.
