Biography

"...Lieutenant John Ion, 32nd Battalion. A military instructor from Leederville, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked aboard HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915 for Suez. His battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. Lt Ion was wounded in action near Fleurbaix, France, on 19 July 1916 and died of these wounds six days later in the 7th Stationary Hospital Boulogne, France.
