Gordon was the second of four children of Henry (Harry) Hislop (b1862 in Bunbury, WA) and Catherine (Kate) Delores Oldham (b1880 in Australiand, WA). Harry - a Boarding Housekeeper - married Kate in 1897 in Bunbury WA. In 1900 Harry was a Gold Miner with a lease at Donnybrook, WA and by 1910 he was a Clerk in Bunbury before becoming President of the Tally Clerks Union.
Gordon was a Lumper (Wharf Labourer) in Bunbury when he upped his age and enlisted in the AIF in June 1918. He was a Private (Service No:16712), and served as a Waiter in the Officers' Mess until his Discharge in December 1918. Following his Discharge, Gordon worked as a Horse Driver in Bunbury, and in 1925 married Elsie Muriel Hales (b1906 in London) in Northam, WA. Elsie arrived in Fremantle, WA with her parents and siblings in 1920 on board the Osterley. Gordon and Elsie settled in Bunbury where Gordon worked as a Lumper, before moving to Perth WA in the 1930s.
Gordon was a Labourer in Perth, WA when he enlisted in the ACMF in July 1941. he served as a Private and Gunner (Service No:W32233) with 9th Australian Horse Transport Coy and Fremantle Coast Artillery. Gordon was Discharged in November 1945.
Settling in Perth WA, Gordon worked as a Labourer and Grader Driver. He died in 1979 and Elsie in 1971.
