Sergeant Martin Joseph Leamey (Service No:TX11192) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:T36677) with 6 District Signals and 12th Infantry Brigade Signals from 17 January 1940 to 22 August 1942, when he Discharged to enlist the following day in the AIF. Sergeant Leamey served with 12 Australian Infantry Brigade Signals and was Discharged on 2 November 1945.

Martin was born in Oatlands, Tasmania in 1918, youngest of four children of John Patrick Leamey (b1870 in County Clare, ireland) and Amelia (Betty) Maria Barbara Munch (b1879 in Mainz, Germany). John - a Farmer's son in Ireland in 1901 - arrived in Hobart, Tasmania by 1905 and was a Farmer in 1913 when he and Betty married at Tunnack - Betty had immigrated in 1905, arriving in Melbourne in October on board the Barbarassa before travelling on to Hobart in December on board the Westralia. John and Betty settled in Oatlands where they raised their family and John was a Farmer. Following John's death in 1936 on a visit home to Ireland, Betty moved to Franklin then settled in Adelaide, South Australia.

Martin was working in Glenorchy as a Clerk in 1940, and following his Discharge was a Factory Worker in 1948 when he married Phyllis (Gwen) Gertrude Fahey (b1924 in Hobart, Tasmania) in Hobart. Martin and Gwen settled in Glenorchy where they raised their family and Martin was a Factory Worker and Supply Officer. Martin died in 2001 and Gwen in 2006.
