Private Charles Leslie Fellows (Service Nos:V311310/VX122871) initially served in the ACMF as a Private attached to 17 Infantry Training Battalion (4 April 1942 - 17 January 1943). Private Fellows was 'in the field' at Wallgrove in New South Wales on 18 January 1943 when he enlisted in the AIF, attached to 1 Motor Training Regiment and 18 Infantry Training Battalion. Private Fellows served with 2/27 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (12 September 1943 - 1 March 1944), and in Borneo (Morotai and Balikapan; 2 June 1945 - 9 January 1946), and was attached to 2/27 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 28 January 1946.
Charlie was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1915, seventh of twelve children of Edward Forrest Fellows (b1876 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Rachel (Dolly) Marion Beechcroft (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria). Edward and Dolly married in 1903 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and Edward was a Driver.
Charlie started work as a Packer in Melbourne where, in 1940 he married Elsie Elna Santley (b1912 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Elsie worked as a Linker. Charlie and Elsie settled in Melbourne, where Charlie was working as a Driver and Packer when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Following his Discharge, Charlie and Elsie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family - Charlie worked as a Driver and Elsie as a Linker. Elsie died in 1983 and Charlie in 1992.
