Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Charles BARR and Rhoda Elizabeth BARR nee BREWSTER, Koroit, Vic.

The sad intelligence, officially confirmed, reached Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Barr on Saturday, 6th inst., that their second son, Trooper Alec. T. D. Barr, had after three and a half years active service, been killed in action on March 22nd. The Rev. R. Nairn im parted the sad news to the bereaved parents.

The deceased, who was 22½ years of age, was a splendid type of Australian soldier. He enlisted on his 19th birthday, and left for Egypt shortly after with the 13th Light Horse,  and saw service in Gallipoli until the evacuation. Some time after reaching France his regiment was formed into the 1st Anzac Mounted Troop, and afterwards into the First Anzac  Salvage Section. A cablegram was received on March 30th, despatched from his brother, Driver Chas. Barr, from London, intimating their intended visit to relatives in South  Shields, so he was probably recalled into action with the Cavalry in the terrific charge on March 22nd. His unit was recently divided into three sections, and he was then attached  to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade, in which is his brother, Driver Chas. W. Barr. Great sympathy has been extended to his relatives from all parts.
