Sergeant Hugh George Patrick Molloy (Service No:WX20328) enlisted in the AIF on 18 February 1942, and was attached to General Reinforcements Signals. Promoted to Lance Corporal, he served with HQ NT Force in the Northern Territory (Adelaide River and Darwin) from 4 April 1943 to 30 September 1945, and was a Sergeant attached to 28th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 14 December 1945.
Pat was born in Youanmi, Western Australia in 1914, second of three children of Hugh Henry Molloy (b1865 at Gummies Bush, Riverton, New Zealand) and Margaret (Maggie) Ann Hughson (nee Peterson; b1874 on the Shetland Islands, Scotland). Hugh (a Miner in Nullagine, Western Australia) and Maggie (a Widow with three young children) married in 1911 in Albany, Western Australia. Hugh and Maggie lived in Northampton, Youanmi and Yalgoo, where they raised their family and Hugh was a Miner. Hugh died in 1923, and in 1924 received a Royal Humane Society of Australasia Award for 'Deeds of Valour' - he lost his life trying to save a child from drowning (Trove; 1924).
Pat worked as a Miner in Youanmi, Boulder and Kalgoorlie. In 1936 in Fremantle he married Dorothy (Dot) Rose Atkins (b1914 in Bunbury, Western Australia). Pat was a Miner in Kalgoorlie in 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF, and following his Discharge, he and Dot settled in Yilgarn and Kalgoorlie where they raised their family and Pat was a Rigger and Miner. Pat died in 1996 and Dot in 2004.
