Lance Corporal William George Meyer (Service No:WX28221) initially served in the ACMF (Trooper; Service No:W1925) with 25th Light Horse (Machine Gun) Regiment from 14 October 1940 to 22 July 1942. He enlisted in the AIF on 23 July 1942 as a Trooper attached to 25 Australian Cavalry Regiment. Promoted to Lance Corporal, he served in New Guinea with 2nd/9th Infantry Battalion (20 December 1943 - 20 May 1944) and Borneo (15 June 1945 - 14 January 1946) and was attached to 2nd/9th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 8 April 1946. On 6 March 1947, Lance Corporal Meyer was awarded a Mention in Despatches 'for exceptional service in the field in SWP area' (AWM). 

Born in 1915 in Boulder Western Australia, Bill was the youngest of two children of Albert (Les) Leslie Meyer (b1884 in Hahndorf, South Australia) and Lily May Reed (b1890 at Wallaroo Mines in South Australia). Les (a Draper) and Lily married in 1910 in Boulder, WA where they settled and raised their two sons (Dudley, the eldest died in 1926) until Les enlisted for Service in WWI. Following Les' death in France in 1918, Lily moved to Perth with her two sons.

Bill worked as an Insurance Clerk in Perth before enlisting in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge, Bill returned to Perth and was working as an Insurance Clerk in 1951 when he married Phyllis Margaret Kelly (b1919 in Jarnadup, WA) - Phyllis was working in Claremont as a Stewardess. Bill and Phyllis settled in Perth, WA where they raised their family and Bill worked as an Insurance Clerk and Inspector. Bill died in 2003 and Phyllis in 2007.
