Gap in the line
While Raymond was in Borneo, they would walk in a single file line through the wilderness. One of the men in charge yelled "There is a gap in the line." To which Raymond misheard "There is a Jap in the line." For those who do not know, the Japanese where nicknamed Jap's. He recounted the panic he felt followed by the humiliation of realising what the man in charge meant. It's important to remember how young Raymond was, he was really just a scared kid at the time, in a completely foreign place, full of people trying to kill him.
