Frank was the youngest of nine children of Carl (Charlie) August Wilhelm Hingst (born 1862 in Germany) and Augusta Wilhelmina Luisia Loose (born 1862 in Germany). Charlie was eleven years of age when he arrived at Maryborough, QLD with his family on board the Alardus in 1873. He grew up in Maryborough and was a Farmer at Laidley in QLD when he married Augusta in 1883. Augusta was twenty one years of age when she immigrated with her family on board the Roma. Charlie and Augusta raised their family at Laidley in QLD, and in 1900 when Charlie died, Augusta remarried.
Frank was in the citizens' Military Forces (11th Infantry Ipswich) and working as a Labourer in Ipswich, QLD when he enlisted in the AIF in January 1917. Frank was a Trooper (Service No:3060), Sapper and Private with 2nd Light Horse Regiment, Anzac Mounted Division Training Unit and 5th Light Horse Regiment and was Discharged in September 1919. Older brother August (Service No:679) was KiA at Rouelles in France in 1918. In WWII Frank served with the ACMF as a Private (Service No:Q155502), as did older brother Charles Henry (Service No:Q14033).
Returning to Ipswich, Frank was working as a Linesman in 1924 when he married Lillian Florence May Neilsen (born 1903 in Laidley, QLD). Frank and Lillian lived in Ipswich, Manly, and Brisbane where Frank worked as a Linesman, Truck Driver and Bridge Carpenter before retiring to Booval in Ipswich, QLD. Frank died in 1974 and Lillian in 1995.
