Youngest of four brothers who served in WWII, Private Stanley Ernest King (Service No:WX10528) enlisted in the AIF on 20 December 1940 with 2 Infantry Training Battalion - Driver. Private King served with 2/2 Independent Coy/Commando Squadron in Timor (7 January 1942 - 16 December 1942) and New Guinea (16 June 1943 - 8 September 1944). Private King was attached to the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) - Propaganda and Intelligence - on 23 March 1945, and was in Morotai from May to September 1945. Private King was Discharged on 7 November 1945.
Stan was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1918, youngest of five children of Sydney Ernest King (b1876 in Middlesex, England) and Lillian Esther Hatten (b1875 in Suffolk, England). Sydney (a Commercial Clerk) and Lillian (a Domestic Servant) married in 1911 in Suffolk, and Sydney was an Emigration Clerk in Norfolk in 1913 when the family immigrated - arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Ajana. Sydney and Lillian settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Sydney worked as a Shop Assistant and Salesman until his death in 1932 - Lillian died in 1927.
Stan worked as a Labourer in West Swan before enlisting in the AIF in 1940. In 1943 in Perth, he married Sheilah Eileen Fleay (b1918 in Pingelly, Western Australia). Following his Discharge from the Army, Stan and Sheilah lived in Boddington, where Stan was a Truck Driver, before settling at Pingaring via Lake Grace, where they raised their family and Stan was a Farmer. Stan died in 1988 and Sheilah in 1999.
